8 Weeks

I am 8 weeks today (kinf of). I went to the doctor yesterday after having some really strong, long-lasting cramps with some feelings of an infection. Marleen (the PA-I love her!!!) checked me out and didn't find anything abnormal. Did I mention I love my doctor and her PA, Marleen?!!!

One really exciting part of the visit was that I got another ultrasound!! The baby has grown so much in 2 weeks. According to the U/S, the baby is measuring 2 days smaller than before. The due date on the ultrasound machine, according to the baby's size, is October 8th. I don't think they will officially change anything unless there is a larger discrepency in measurements (later on). The u/s picture shows the baby towards the top of the sac. The left plus sign is the baby's head and the one on the right is the baby's butt. It's not clear in person so I'm sorry if you can't really see anything:

Other than yesterday, I feel great! The queeziness has subsided and I'm just a littler tired. I also got over my sinus gunk.

Also, I have the best husband ever!! He planned a trip for us (Babymoon) to go on in June. It's a 7 night cruise, but I don't know where or what cruiseline. He will reveal the big surprise on my birthday (his original idea was to do everything behind my back - but he couldn't keep it ALL in). I'll let you know after Sunday what the big trip will be. He is also planning a crawfish boil for my b-day this weekend. He is so great - thanks Shelly!!

7 Weeks

Today is the first day of week 7! Kris came up with a name for Baby Roberts - "Baby L". It's because all of the names we like (boy or girl) start with the letter "L". We decided to go with L names because (I know it's silly) K for Kris M for Melissa and L is in the middle :)

Over the weekend I started realizing that I will HAVE to eat every 3 hours to stay alive - and to keep Baby L alive! We went to the grocery store and picked up lots of snacks for us - fruit, crackers, applesauce, and all kinds of "good" stuff. If I don't eat every 3 hours I start getting weak. It's crazy to know that there is a real reason for me feeling this way. I love it!

I'm excited to start "popping" but I know Ill regret saying that in a few weeks.

First Doctor Appointment

February 11, 2009-9:30 a.m.

Kris and I got to the doctor's office right on time. We waited about 10 minutes until our name was called. We were sooooo excited! I had to give a urine sample and then we went in the PA's office and talked with her about our family history and she gave us some info on safe and unsafe foods to eat and do.

Then we went to the exam room and they wheeled the ultrasound machine in. My heart was beating so fast. Kris came to me and there it was! Heart beating and all!!! Our eyes were glued to the monitor the entire time. Even though it's hard to see on a picture of a picture, here is what you are looking at:
the main picture is of the amneotic sack (black circle). The baby is the tiny white clump between the plus signs. The other white dot to the right of the baby is the yolk sac which will disappear as the placenta starts to nourish our baby. The box on the lower left is just an enlarged image of the amneotic sack, baby and yolk. So cool!

I finally feel like it's real and that everything will be wonderful! Thanks for all of your thoughts and prayer up to this point and beyond! I can't wait to start growing :)

Gifts for Baby

First gift:
Grandma Roberts got the very first gift for our Baby, the day after the news broke. She drove all the way down from Spring to surprise us with the biggest teddy bear, ever!! We named him Ziggy since he was bought in honor of our little Zygote (at the time). Here is Ziggy with and without Fiona and Kameron (so you can see its size):

Thanks, G-Rob!!

Second Gift:
Terry (Melissa's mom) ordered a few books for the parents-to-be the day she heard to good news. She also decided that she wants the baby to call her "Nana." Here are the books we got from Mom:

Thanks, Mom!!

Third Gift:
Shelly (Kris's mom) came into town over the weekend. Kris and she went shopping today and I came home to find the cutest new baby clothes and sweetest book. Here they are:

Thanks, Shelly!!

6 Weeks

Today I am 6 weeks along! I go to the doctor on Wednesday to, hopefully, see our tiny baby's heart beating. I thought I would share some symptoms that I've been feeling over the past couple of weeks up to today, in order:

1. tenderness in boobs
2. lack of an appetite
3. bloating
4. Dizzy/Lightheaded
5. I started feeling queezy today - I'm trying to trick my body into not feeling nausea. I HATE getting sick so I've been taking deep breaths and thinking happy thoughts (as Kristi told me to do).

Today, my heart is playing games. It raced early this morning and slowed to give me a close-to blackout later today. I'll mention this to my doctor on Wednesday. Since I've been off of my heart medication since June, I've only had a few issues, but I know things will escalate now that there are 2 of us. I'm very in-tuned with my body so I'm aware of EVERYTHING that is going on. I'll keep you updated! Please pray that everything is okay!!

Blood Test

January 30, 2009

I had an appointment this morning with my family doctor to get a blood test so I can see what my HCG levels are. My results came back on February 2. My HCG level was 524! That's really good. My book says that a normal level for 4 weeks (at the time of my blood test) should be between 5 and 426. It looks like I have a healthy baby in there!

Exciting News

January 27, 2009

Today I found out I was pregnant! I tutored Manar after school until 4 and then talked with Holly and Devin until 5 or so. I left and stopped by CVS so that I could pick up some cough drops and cold medicine. I took a pregnancy test 4 days ago (cycle day 24) and it was negative, but I decided to pick up a box today because I knew that whatever the results, I would know since today was cycle day 28. Waiting is the hardest for me. So after I left CVS I went straight home, let the dogs out and took a test. Usually the pink line shows immediately and I tilt the test in different light to make sure there isn’t something I’m missing (the second pink line-meaning pregnant). But every time (since June) there was always just one line – negative. Today I noticed something; another faint, very faint, line next to the “negative” line (that’s what that 1 line means to me – the one on the right side of the little window). So I picked up the test, tilted it to make sure and the second line, on the left continued to darken! I was pregnant!

I never knew what a positive test looked like, but it was beautiful! I started shaking and my heart went crazy! I called Kris immediately and told him he needed to hurry home. After several questions I couldn’t hold it in anymore and blurted it out. He didn’t believe me so I sent him a picture message on his phone to prove it. He was leaving work and headed straight home. He called about 6 times on the way home, as I was calling my besties. Here are the people we called and actually got to talk to:
1. Kris
2. Mom and Dad – came over immediately
3. Amanda and Lynne
4. Meredith – walked in as I was on the phone
5. Kristi
6. Jimmy – came over when Mom and Dad were here
7. Dra
8. Mom and Rob
9. Kris’s Dad
10. Grandma Rob
11. Grandma Garza
12. Holly
13. Devin
14. Marissa
15. Amber

16. Julie (Finally! She was feeding and bathing Parker the first 2 times I called her.)
17. Debbie

18. Melanie

I plan on calling the doctor tomorrow and hopefully I’ll get an appointment to go in and get a blood test. I will also call my cardiologist so that he can monitor my heart during the pregnancy.
YAY!! We are so excited!!

Here are some pictures of the belly at exactly 4 weeks:
